Shaftless Overhead Unwind

The system, comprising three modules—unwind, sheeter, and placement—processes a wound roll of material into rectangular pieces. Key functions include:

Unwinding and Tension Control: The unwind module, with a cradle transfer cart, gantry unwind chucks, and vertical accumulator, dispenses material. The driven chucks work with the sheeter’s input nip set, accumulating web in the vertical accumulator using pneumatic cylinders to maintain constant tension during transfer.

Sheeting: The sheeter module processes the web through a decurl assembly, adjustable via a hand wheel to remove curvature, followed by an input nip set with a servo-driven drive roller and pneumatically actuated nip roller for precise incrementing. A cross-cut shear severs the web after each increment, with a crankshaft driving the upper blade past the lower blade. Blade gap and bias force, adjusted via a screw and spring regulator, ensure clean cuts without blade collision or excessive wear.

Placement: The placement module, with holding trays, a pick-and-place system, and exit conveyor, handles cut sheets. Sheets rest on a top tray until the previous sheet clears, then the pick-and-place system uses pneumatic vacuum and servo motion to lift and position the sheet onto the exit conveyor, synchronizing with the line position. The exit conveyor’s vacuum system transfers sheets to an external conveyor line
