Custom In-Line Laminator

The system unwinds, laminates, trims, and rewinds material, consisting of a laminator module, scrap rewind module, and hoist conveyor module. Key functions include:

• Unwinding and Laminating: The laminator module includes a material unwind, liner rewind, premask unwind, and nip sets. Material is pulled from the unwind, passes through idler rollers, a web guide sensor, and a break-over roller, where a liner may be separated and wound onto the liner rewind. The material is laminated to the web path via a nip set, with a pneumatic brake on the unwind creating adjustable tension. The web guide sensor shifts the unwind to align material accurately. A premask unwind operates similarly but without liner removal. Pneumatic brakes and the liner rewind motor use electronically controlled regulators (ITV) to adjust tension based on roll diameter sensors, set via the HMI. Nip set pressure is manually adjustable, and fixed gap knobs accommodate different web thicknesses. An optional edge trim slitter shears excess material, adjustable vertically.
• Scrap Rewinding: The scrap rewind module stores edge trim from the slitter on a disposable core. The trim is threaded through guides and wound onto the core, with the scrap rewind shaft’s weight aiding adhesion. A clutch-limited motor powers the rewind roller, applying torque adjusted by air pressure. A chain-driven UHING actuator moves the edge trim guide back and forth, ensuring even winding by reversing direction at each end via a lever and hard stop.
• Hoist Loading/Unloading: The hoist module facilitates material roll handling for the laminator. An airshaft is inserted into the roll’s core, inflated, and lifted using a spreader bar and straps. The roll is positioned over the laminator, loaded into safety chucks with tilted face plates to accept the airshaft’s square ends, and secured. The hoist trolley is moved to a safe location before operation.
