Custom Collating Sheeter Stacker
The Collator feeds, cuts, and stacks up to six layers of kraft paper into “books.” It comprises unwind stands, an accumulator, an increment and shear system, a dual gripper stacking system and a pallet conveyor system. Key functions include:
- Unwinding: Six unwind stands with side-shifting web-guiding systems support single material rolls. Each features electronic roll diameter monitoring, a pneumatic disc brake for web tension (adjusted automatically as roll diameter decreases), a pacer nip roller set (speed controlled by accumulator position), a web splicing station for butt splicing, and a powered empty core lift for quick roll replacement. A roll diameter warning stops the unwind after the next cycle, with an override option.
- Accumulating: The accumulator stores material for increment cycles, controlled by unwind stands with position sensors for calculated feed rates. Additional web guides for three webs ensure alignment. A clamp bar allows processing fewer than six rolls without removing idle webs.
- Incrementing and Shearing: Servo-driven increment drive rollers pay out programmed material lengths, with a cutter clamp securing the web post-increment for better cut quality. A guillotine cutter, activated by a pneumatic valve and clutch/brake system, performs a single crankshaft revolution to sever the web. Blade bias cylinders, adjustable by the operator, ensure proper cut quality without excessive wear.
- Stacking: A dual gripper system uses servo-driven grippers for precise material handling. The pass-through gripper receives the material’s leading edge from the sheeter, closes, and transfers it to the stacker gripper. The stacker gripper deposits the sheet onto a pallet, with synchronized movements allowing higher throughput at slower speeds. The control system staggers alternating cuts for book organization. A hydraulic scissors lift table with a powered roller conveyor automatically lowers as the stack height increases, maintaining a constant stacking distance.
- Pallet Conveying: Pallet conveyors, controlled by photo switches, move empty pallets into the stacking area and full pallets out for forklift removal. Forklift pockets accommodate pallets without fork openings.
