Custom Laminator

The system unwinds, laminates, and rewinds material, removing a liner and optionally treating the substrate. It comprises a laminator module, rewind module, and two rolling table modules. Key functions include:

  • Laminating: The laminator module includes a material unwind, liner rewind, and adhesive unwind. Material is pulled from the material unwind, passes under an idler roller, through a web guide sensor, and past a break-over roller, where a liner is separated and sent to the liner rewind. The material and adhesive from the adhesive unwind are adhered to the web via a nip set, driven proportionally to web throughput. Magnetic particle brakes on the unwinds create adjustable tension, controlled via the HMI based on roll diameter sensor feedback to maintain consistent tension and prevent curling. The liner rewind, powered by the same servo motor as the drive roller, and the nip set have HMI-set regulators for pressure and fixed gap adjustments to accommodate web thickness. Excessive tension can cause finished sheet curling.
  • Rewinding: The rewind module features an air shaft with safety chucks and a magnetic particle brake, all adjusted via the HMI. The rewind shaft, centered with     the material roll, is loaded into tilt-plate safety chucks that open manually for placement and close to secure the shaft. An Accuweb linear actuator automatically centers the web using a web eye. The rewind clutch controls liner paper tension between the rewind and drive roller.
  • Substrate Handling and Treatment: Two rolling table modules support substrate movement, optionally routing it through a corona treater. The substrate passes around idler rollers and through the nip set, with the liner peeled off to the laminator’s rewind. If using the treater, the substrate is routed under an upper idler, around the treater, and above a lower idler before the nip set. The tables are latched into the safety circuit to enable machine operation and have spacers to prevent contact with the nip set.
